چکیده
The Environment Agency is the leading public body protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. It's our job to make sure that air, land and water are looked after by everyone in today's society, so that tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world. Our work includes tackling flooding and pollution incidents, reducing industry's impacts on the environment, cleaning up rivers, coastal waters and contaminated land, and improving wildlife habitats. which is 100% post consumer waste and is totally chlorine free. Water used is treated and in most cases returned to source in better condition than removed.

Crank-nicolson Finite Element for 2-d Groundwater Flow, Advection-dispersion and Interphase Mass Transfer: I. Model Development
Abstract. Dense, non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) are common organic contaminants in subsurface environment. Once spilled or leaked underground, they slowly dissolved into groundwater and generated a plume of contaminants. In order to manage the contaminated site and predict the behavior of dissolved DNAPL in heterogeneous subsurface requires a comprehensive numerical model. In this work, the...
متن کاملMicrobial Transport and Fate in the Subsurface Environment: Introduction to the Special Section.
Microorganisms constitute an almost exclusive form of life in the earth's subsurface environment (not including caves), particularly at depths exceeding the soil horizon. While of broad interest to ecology and geology, scientific interest in the fate and transport of microorganisms, particularly those introduced through the anthropogenic environment, has focused on understanding the subsurface ...
متن کاملFriedrich Schwille: an historical appreciation.
In 1675, Isaac Newton wrote to Robert Hooke, his fellow physicist, ‘‘If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.’’ This Historical Note posthumously honors one particular giant, Friedrich Schwille, who died on April 15, 2000, in Koblenz, Germany. He is survived by his wife Margret and two children—Martin and Christine—and their families. Friedrich Schwille (Figure 1) wa...
متن کاملEMSP Progress Report: Physics of DNAPL Migration and Remediation in the Presence of Heterogeneities
We are in the process of conducting well-controlled laboratory experiments to better understand the physics of DNAPL migration and remediation in the presence of heterogeneities. These experiments are being used to develop and test an upscaled percolation model, a new approach for modeling DNAPL migration. In addition, numerical simulators under current use in evaluating remediation techniques ...

725 Chlorinated solvents in the form of DNAPLs exist at a large number of hazardous waste sites. The distribution of DNAPLs is controlled by fi ngering (Held and Illangasekare, 1995), preferential channeling, and heterogeneity of the subsurface formation (Kueper and Frind, 1991). All of these factors increase the complexity of NAPL movement and subsequent entrapment (Schwille, 1988; Kueper et a...
